The New Year is always the perfect time to start fresh and make New Year’s resolutions. But this often tends to be easier said than done. In fact, only around 12% of people actually achieve their New Year’s resolution goals. Here are some healthy tips to help you keep your New Year’s Resolutions.
Be Realistic
A common reason for failure is either aiming too high or having too many resolutions. Instead, strive for goals that are realistic and will set you up for success. Don’t try to achieve something too ambitious, like never eating your favourite food again. Aim for goals that are attainable, like going for more walks, reading more books, or eating healthier.
Have a Plan
Don’t wait until the last minute to make your New Year’s resolutions. Plan ahead and think about things that you really want or need to change. If it’s not something you can start to work on by January 1st, then pick another date to start, like for example February 1st. Having a plan also helps you to research your goal. For example, if your resolution is to start eating healthier, do some research on ways to do this and foods that you can buy (and avoid) at the grocery store to set yourself up for success.
Believe in yourself
Make resolutions that you sincerely believe you can accomplish. Give yourself the confidence to follow through and to achieve the goals that you set out for yourself. Use this confidence to help you accomplish your goals and make yourself feel good about them along the way.
Celebrate the small things
Reward yourself along the way to keep yourself motivated and celebrate your success. This doesn’t mean going out and eating a box of chocolates. Instead, reward yourself by purchasing those new running shoes you had your eyes on or spoiling yourself with a relaxing massage. Choose rewards that celebrate rather than contradict your resolution.
