The winter weather can sometimes damper our mood. Not only do we lose daylight, but we often spend less time outdoors. Plus, with COVID-19, we are spending even more time in our homes then ever before. Here are a few tips to brighten your apartment during the winter.
Bring the outdoors inside
Fresh flowers and plants will not only add a bit of colour to your apartment, but will also bring the smell of spring in. Opt for a vase of flowers on the kitchen or dining room, or plants that don’t need a lot of sun, like spider plants, ferns, jade plants and succulents.
Use bright decor
A few pieces of decor can add a lot of life and brightness not only to your apartment, but also to your mood! Consider things like bright coloured throw cushions, glassware, candy dishes and even seat covers to make your apartment bright during the winter.
Change the curtains
If you are using curtains for privacy reasons, think about using light filtering curtains or sheer fabrics on the window to help bring more light into your apartment. This will definitely brighten things up. If privacy is not an issue, open your drapes to bring as much sunlight into your apartment as possible.
Use mirrors
Not only do they help bounce light around, but they also help to fill a room with natural light. Place a mirror on a wall opposite a window to really let the light stream in. You can really get creative with mirrors as well.
Swap the light bulbs
One of the easiest ways to brighten your apartment during winter is to change the light bulbs. Light bulbs come is a wide range of colours and temperatures, each of which can significantly impact the feel of a room. Opt for LED bulbs, which are more efficient, and full spectrum light bulbs, which are designed to emulate midday sunlight.
